We Believe
As Unitarian Universalists, we promise to support one another in our spiritual journey, both as individuals and as a community. We draw from our heritages of freedom, reason, hope, and courage, building on the foundation of love.
Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. We are accountable to one another for doing the work of living our shared values through the spiritual discipline of Love.
As Unitarian Universalists, our members are guided by the Seven Principles, which include “Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations,” and “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.” Our faith tradition calls us to respect diversity, inclusiveness, and to strive for open and honest communication in our relations with each other and with the greater world.
Our religious and spiritual beliefs are rooted in the liberal Christian traditions of Unitarianism and Universalism. However, we embrace diverse teachings from Eastern and Western religions, and philosophies derived from indigenous practices and Earth-based traditions throughout the world–read more about the UU Living Tradition. FUSF is a place where humanists, atheists, Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs, neo-pagans, Jews, Muslims, and those without a religious background all find a spiritual home.
We are a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association, and regionally, we are part of the New England Region.
Our Mission includes:
- Being a supportive, loving community for all of our members and friends;
- Continuing the UU traditions of valuing diversity and practicing openness and inclusivity;
- Being a “liberal beacon” in the Franklin, MA and surrounding communities from which our members are drawn;
- Supporting our members and the local communities in their efforts related to social justice, environmental awareness, and support of the arts.
Our Vision includes:
- Continuing to be a presence in our local communities into the next century;
- Partnering with other faith traditions who share similar values, to enhance our common work in social justice, the environment, and related endeavors;
- Strengthening our ties in the communities we serve to support our belief in the seven principles, particularly our belief in “the inherent worth and dignity” of all people.
