Why We Gather

In The Wedding Song by Paul Stookey of the iconic trio Peter, Paul and Mary, he wrote

“He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on his part
The union of your spirits here has caused him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in his name
There is love. There is love.”

Written as a gift for his bandmate Peter Yarrow’s wedding, it clearly speaks of the institution of marriage and being together in the presence of God and love. But can significance also be found in how and why congregations gather? Do we gather to honor God? Is love the important UU value that prompts us to be together on Sunday mornings and at other times? Join Rev. Bev as we explore why we gather in Unitarian Universalist communities of faith.
