Hope is both deeply personal and widely universal. As Unitarian Universalists we know that hope is not just the power of thinking positively but it is a spiritual strength that empowers us to take action.  

In this service Emily Steltzer invites us to explore the power and complexity of hope through the life story of Sally Hemings and the Hemings family of Monticello. Based on her week-long professional development stay at Monticello last summer Emily  invites us to reflect on the personal and universal power of hope, the value of human dignity and justice, as well as the idea that personal actions can expand the possibilities of the next generation.

Emily Steltzer lives in Franklin with her family, is the youth advisor at FUSF and a high school history teacher.
