You are now in the Religious Education wing, built in 2004. This wing was funded by the congregation at a “Miracle Sunday” event where members raised $200,000 in one day for the construction of the religious education wing. The members’ goal was to build the RE wing without incurring debt. It was quite a tribute to the children of FUSF.
Unitarian Universalists believe in seeking truth and know that education is a critical piece in that search. FUSF has an adult and a children’s library, both of which are located near the administrator’s office. The books in these libraries encourage faith development, and provide inspiration, nourishment, and support throughout the lifespan. On the left is the children’s library, housed in a gathering space that includes a comfortable couch, a few toddler toys and puzzles, and some fidget toys and logic puzzles for children and youth. This library contains books for toddlers, children, youth, and caregivers. These resources focus on our Unitarian Universalist Values and are to be used and enjoyed by all ages.
To the right (near the copier) is the adult library. The online catalog for both the children and adult libraries is sorted alphabetically by category and then by title (available on our website). Books from either library can be checked out for personal use. Above the adult library there are photos of our many church retreats at Ferry Beach, a Unitarian Universalist retreat center in Saco, Maine. This tradition of an annual spring gathering continues to be a much-anticipated weekend by adults and children alike. (Continue down the hallway, noting the various meeting rooms and photos on display).
