October 2016 Update

It is difficult to overstate the opportunities provided to a congregation during an interim period. Rarely in the life of any human institution-a congregation-is there such a chance to begin anew. The interim period following the end of one relationship and preceding the
beginning of another offers such an opportunity, providing the breathing space during which a congregation can review its goals, assess its programs, and consider the quality of its life in common.

The two-year period it usually takes for a congregation to grow into and own its identity, independent of both positive and negative feelings about the ministry that has come to an end, can be exciting, even transformative, when devoted to self-examination and institutional renewal.

Our interim minister, Reverend Jenny Rankin, is here to help us articulate who we are and how we see ourselves moving forward. In order to make her ministry as effective as possible, she will be assisted by our Transition Team:

Karen Allard

Jeff Cerier
Alec Danz
Suzanne Reynolds-Alpert
Marjorie Roemer
Jerry Rubin
Judy Swaim
Joan Toye

One of the Transition Team’s first duties is to set up meetings, “listening circles,” with the interim minister, Transition Team members, and the congregation. These provide an opportunity for each of us to share our unique story, and our sense of the congregation’s strengths as well as opportunities for growth or improvement. We will meet in groups of 10-15 people, for 90 minutes. Gathered information will be reviewed by the Team. Trends and themes will be identified, summarized, and incorporated into future planning. Several dates have been identified:

Sun, Oct 2nd, 11:30-1, Dean Room

Thu, Oct 6th, 10:30-noon, Cook Room

Tue, Oct 18th, 7-8:30, Cook Room

Thu, Oct 20th, noon-1:30, Cook Room

Sun, Oct 23rd, 11:30-1, Cook Room

Tue, Oct 25th, 7-8:30, sanctuary

Sun, Oct 30th, 11:30-1, Cook Room

Sun, Nov 6th, 11:30-1, Dean Room.

Please sign up. ¬†We need everyone’s voice.

If you have any questions on the Listening Circles, please don’t hesitate to contact Rev. Rankin or a Transition Team member.

Respectfully Submitted by Alec Danz for the Transition Team
